The Eagle Mustangs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 53-43 win over Preston.
Eagle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Russell Gibson, who scored 17 points along with five assists. Gibson hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Taylor, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Eagle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Preston, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle will square off against Timberline at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Timberline will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Preston and Logan will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Logan is ranked 20th in Utah, while Preston is ranked 34th in Idaho).
