Winslow extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Maine Central Institute Huskies. Even if the Black Raiders couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Lucas Fisher made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Loubier, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
As for Maine Central Institute, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.
On Maine Central Institute's side, Karlin Mack was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Mack posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Maine Central Institute's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Gomez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Nate Poissonior was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winslow will venture away from home to square off against Cony at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Black Raiders will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups. As for Maine Central Institute, they will head out to take on Dexter at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Huskies' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
