It was a good run, but The Lakeland Dreadnaughts unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They and Clearwater Academy International were almost perfectly matched up, but Lakeland suffered an agonizing 35-34 loss. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Lakeland's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayren ?pat? dennis, who picked up 82 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Zander Smith, who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns.
Antwan Raymond was his usual excellent self, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Raymond's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Another player making a difference was Dallas Sims, who picked up 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Clearwater Academy International's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Samuel Ehret and his two sacks.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Clearwater Academy International, adding 11 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Alessandro Galantini: he added nine points with three field goals, and another two kicking extra points.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Clearwater Academy International, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland will stay at home for another week and welcome Kathleen at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Kathleen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 354th, while Lakeland is ranked 28th). As for Clearwater Academy International, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
