Mission Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jake Mills, who threw for 146 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 48 yards and a pair of scores. Those 48 rushing yards gave Mills a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Darrell Garza, who gained 168 total yards and a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mission Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Franklin only rushed for 167.
Mission Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Garza, Mills, Bryce Bunger, and Jace Taylor picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Cair Paravel had to suffer through a 39-7 loss at the hands of Council Grove. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Braves are ranked 102nd).
Mission Valley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cair Paravel, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.
Mission Valley took their win against Cair Paravel when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 46-22 score. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Lions' Tobias Bonura, who picked up 91 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 61 yards and one score. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Vikings still be able to contain Bonura? There's only one way to find out.
