The Vasquez Mustangs will head out to face off against the Desert Christian Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Vasquez's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Desert Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Vasquez's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Santa Clarita Christian 6-0. Considering the Mustangs have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brandon Vasquez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
Meanwhile, Desert Christian was not the first on the board last Thursday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Santa Clarita Christian by a score of 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.
Seth Zeko spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Blake Jones, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Desert Christian's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-0-1 (and 1-4-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Mount, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Desert Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-4-2. As for Vasquez, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
Desert Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vasquez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Desert Christian, though, as they've only averaged .238. Will they be able to contain Vasquez's hitters?
Vasquez beat Desert Christian 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
