The Spanish Springs Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Galena 58-33. The win was nothing new for Spanish Springs as they're now sitting on three straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spanish Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaliyah Vance, who scored 16 points along with five steals. The match was Vance's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layni Noonkester, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Galena lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Mia Turner. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Even though they lost, Galena were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spanish Springs only pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.
Spanish Springs has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Galena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Spanish Springs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Flagstaff at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Flagstaff's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. Galena will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Clovis North at 6:00 p.m. on December 27, 2023. Clovis North will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 684th in California, while Galena is ranked 56th in Nevada).
