Loara has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Loara focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
Even though Loara has not done well against the Cavaliers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Loara came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cavaliers and snuck past 38-35.
Loara found their leader in underclassman Sophia Rangel, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Rangel has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Laila Walker, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rancho Alamitos came up short against the Aztecs on Tuesday and fell 33-22. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rancho Alamitos in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now lost four in a row.
Loara is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Rancho Alamitos, their loss dropped their record down to 8-19.
Everything came up roses for Loara against the Vaqueros when the teams last played two weeks ago as the team secured a 65-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Loara since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
