It was a good run, but the Millers Creek Christian Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 53-41 to Ashe County. Millers Creek Christian lost against Ashe County in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 72-47 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Millers Creek Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cam Layaou. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. The contest was Layaou's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Heath, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Millers Creek Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Ashe County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Millers Creek Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gospel Light Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Ashe County, they will head out on the road to face off against Newton-Conover at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
