Apple Valley has gone 8-2 against Granite Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Sun Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 3:15 p.m. Apple Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Apple Valley after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Western Christian by a score of 8-7. The Sun Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Andrew Wilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Tyler Redona also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granite Hills). They blew past Polytechnic 15-1 on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Cougars with their most commanding win of the season.
Kaleb Kutz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Travon Jackson Jr and Caden Wharton did most of the damage at the plate: Jackson Jr got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Wharton went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Jackson Jr is becoming a predictor of Granite Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Isaiah Mayorga was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Granite Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Polytechnic only managed two.
Granite Hills is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Apple Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Apple Valley skirted past Granite Hills 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sun Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
