Basketball Recap: Serra Drops Season-High Score on Bishop Amat

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Serra). They put the hurt on the Bishop Amat Lancers with a sharp 71-51 win on Tuesday. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 20 points or more this season.

Serra found their leader in sophomore Mariyah Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaicia Snelson, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and five steals.

Serra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Bishop Amat lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mia Stuart, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Stuart is becoming a predictor of Bishop Amat's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Midori Lo, who posted nine points and three steals.

Serra picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Bishop Amat, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Serra will take on Banning in a tournament on December 18th. Serra has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Bishop Amat, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-43 loss against Bonita on the 12th.
