The Sutherland Sailors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 64-33 defeat at the hands of Paxton. Sutherland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.
Sutherland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Glory Naughtin, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals. Naughtin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Fallyn Elfeldt was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Jacelyn Jorgensen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Paxton, scoring 13 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Jorgensen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Fote, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Sutherland's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Paxton, they pushed their record up to 14-9 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Sutherland will head out on the road to take on Morrill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sutherland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Thursday. Paxton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
