The Aspen Skiers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight defeat. They fell to Basalt 30-24. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Aspen of the 30-25 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Aspen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ambler Henderson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Aspen's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Aspen's defeat was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.4 points per game. As for Basalt, their victory ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aspen will take on Grand Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Grand Valley will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Aspen surely won't give up without a fight. As for Basalt, they will be playing at home against Summit at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Basalt will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Summit is ranked 142nd).
