If the Del Mar Dons were feeling good off their 60-19 takedown of the Independence 76ers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Del Mar took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Live Oak. Del Mar was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Live Oak apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Del Mar had strong showings from Moana Tulua, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Zoey Hinkle, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hinkle hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for seven straight games. Arseama Kibrom was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Del Mar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Live Oak got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kathliyah Clement out in front who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Clement hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rian Henderson, who scored 14 points along with two blocks.
Del Mar's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-9. As for Live Oak, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Del Mar does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Live Oak, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Live Oak sitting on four straight victories and Mt. Pleasant on ten.
