The Roosevelt Rough Riders had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.9 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 58-35 margin over Madera South. Roosevelt has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 23 points or more this season.
Leading Roosevelt to victory were Nevaeh Reese and Taylor Sutherland. Reese dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Sutherland dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Sutherland has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Nyleigh Gregory was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Madera South still got an impressive performance from BRIANNAH LORTA, who scored 16 points. That was a full 45.7% of Madera South's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of JALISSA KIRKPATRICK, who scored six points.
Roosevelt's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-7. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.6 points. As for Madera South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will challenge the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoover will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Madera South is on the road again on Friday and plays the Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd.
