The Foothill Knights were the 45-40 winner over the Segerstrom Jaguars when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Foothill's tough 39-19 loss to Segerstrom on Thursday might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Foothill has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Foothill lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jay Perez. Despite the final result, she scored a points along with 22 rebounds and three steals. Those 22 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Foothill struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Stephanie Valenciano was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Segerstrom. The contest was Valenciano's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Valeria Quero, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Foothill has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Segerstrom, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Foothill will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Cerritos at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. Cerritos presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Foothill in California (Cerritos is ranked 227th, while Foothill is ranked 804th). Segerstrom will take on Beckman in a holiday battle at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at. Beckman is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
