Basketball Recap: Carver Vo-Tech Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kaiden Matthews and David Ross

On Friday, the Carver Vo-Tech Bears lost to the Fairmont Heights Hornets on the road by a 69-55 margin.

Carver Vo-Tech's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of David Ross, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, and Kaiden Matthews, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those four steals gave Ross a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyjuan Savage, who posted seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Carver Vo-Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Carver Vo-Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Fairmont Heights, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carver Vo-Tech will venture away from home to challenge Southwestern at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Carver Vo-Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. After both having extra time off, Fairmont Heights and Central will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:15 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Fairmont Heights' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
