MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: Clay-Chalkville takes down No. 19 Thompson 28-24

Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.) upset No. 19 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) 28-24 on Thursday after four-star senior Corey Barber scored three touchdowns.

The Ole Miss commit scored had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score from quarterback Aaron Frye to give the Cougars the lead with under four minutes to play.

Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn had three touchdown passes and led the Warriors to the Cougars 24-yard line with two minutes left. 

The Clay-Chalkville defense stepped up four plays in a row and Keith Richmond sacked Seaborn on fourth down to seal the victory. 

No. 7 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) looks to bounce back after a 27-24 loss against No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) as it faces another Trinity League opponent in No. 9 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) on Saturday. The Gaels have won the two previous matchups in this series with the last coming in 2014. 

The MaxPreps Game of the Week takes place in Alabama as Central (Phenix City, Ala.) hosts No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) on Friday at 8 p.m. CT. The Ascenders are off to a 4-0 start under new head coach Greg Studrawa and winning by an average margin of 41.3 points per game. The Red Devils are 5-0 and 59-12 under Patrick Nix since he took over as head coach in 2020. 

IMG Academy is 6-0 against teams from Alabama, including a 34-13 win over Hoover in its season opener and a 41-26 win over Central in 2022.

In New Jersey, No. 14 Bergen Catholic (Oradell) has a big road test against an undefeated Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey) squad. These rivals first met in 1958 and this will be the 82nd meeting. Bosco holds a 41-38-2 edge but the Crusaders have won four in a row and six of the last seven matchups. 

In Oklahoma, a battle of unbeatens is going down between No. 25 Bixby and Jenks. Bixby, which has won seven-straight state titles, dominated its first three opponents 162-35.
