While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, the Surprise Valley Hornets were not quite the Burney Raiders's equal in the second half on Thursday. Surprise Valley was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 37-36 to Burney. Surprise Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Burney apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Surprise Valley still got an impressive performance from Elizabeth Lopez-Rangel, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Lopez-Rangel scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Arreche, who scored six points.
Surprise Valley's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-5. As for Burney, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Surprise Valley will head out on the road to take on Butte Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burney won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Portola at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th.
