The McLane Highlanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 63-36 loss at the hands of Torres. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for McLane in their matchups with the Toros: they've now lost four in a row.
McLane's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Valeria Cerda, who scored 13 points. That was a full 36.1% of McLane's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylene Huerta, who scored 11 points.
Sabrina Cerrillo was her usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with five rebounds and five steals for Torres. Cerrillo has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Kaylin Perez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
McLane has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Torres, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8.
McLane will take on the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Sunnyside is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Torres, they will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
