Granada and College Park are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Granada Matadors will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the College Park Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Granada was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against James Logan on Friday. Granada never let James Logan get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Colts recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Logan Robinson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mikey Boyd, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Tommy Brown, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Granada hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Logan struck out seven times.
College Park not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024. They blew past San Ramon Valley 8-0.
Sebastian Alvarez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Vincent 'Tino' Vasell was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Johnston, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The victory got Granada back to even at 1-1. As for College Park, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Everything went Granada's way against College Park in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Granada made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Granada since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
