Eight new teams join this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings

New entries headlined by El Modena of California, which lands at No. 3 after winning the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions.

Eight new teams enter this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings as more states get underway.

The 29th annual Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz., featured 48 teams from across the West Coast. The final in the Gold Bracket pitted two teams from Southern California as previous No. 2 Norco faced El Modena (Orange) in the 8 p.m. nightcap Saturday. 

El Modena got rolling in the first inning as Parker Mayes hit a two-run blast. Sasha Pham went yard in the bottom of the fourth to give Norco the lead but Ava Savala answered back with a two-run deep fly. The Vanguards held on for a 5-4 victory, bringing home their first Dave Kops TOC title. The win pushes El Modena to No. 3 while the Cougars drop to No. 8.

George County (Lucedale, Miss.) joins this week's rankings after a 13-0 start, including an 8-2 win over previous No. 8 Northwest Rankin (Brandon) on Friday. Sophomore pitcher Peyton Collins went the distance, striking out 10. The young ace is no stranger to varsity play as she has been on the high school team since seventh grade. Fellow Class of 2027 slugger Kyleigh Howell hit a home run during the Rebels' victory.

Springville (Ala.) enters at No. 16 after winning six games and capturing the Wetumpka Tournament championship. The Tigers have outscored opponents 104-14.

Pace (Fla.) is back in the MaxPreps Top 25. The defending Class 6A state champions have allowed just three runs in seven games. Sophomore sensation Hannah DeMarcus has struck out 108 batters in 39 innings of work, including mowing down 20 of the 24 batters she faced in a 3-0 win over a solid Daphne (Ala.) squad.

Another Florida school in the rankings is Lake Brantley (Altamonte Springs, Fla.), which is led by sophomore Rylin Sprague and junior Auriana Turner, who have combined for 27 hits, 19 RBIs and five home runs through eight games.

Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) went 4-1 at the Dave Kops TOC, including a 2-0 win over Canyon (Anaheim, Calif.) in its final game. Freshmen pitchers Charlee Pierpont and Rylee Silva split the game in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out seven. The Lancers move up to No. 18.

Arizona's Canyon del Oro (Tucson) is on the rise and lands at No. 20. Oregon State pledge Amelia Streuber has allowed just four hits in 39 innings of work, while fellow senior and Miami commit Molly Herman has piled up 23 hits in 12 games.

Kennedy Bradley went deep twice and Paisley Needham and Caigan Crabtree added two more as the Cardinals beat Sherman 15-0 on Friday.

2. Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)

Colby Reish and Danika Spinogatti both went yard while Missy Odom mowed down in eight in the circle during an 18-3 win over Lake Weir on Thursday.

3. El Modena (Orange, Calif.)
Record: 7-1 | Last week: NR
Loyola Marymount commit Sara Pinedo came in and struck out six over the final three innings to close out the 5-4 win over Norco.

4. Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills, Calif.)
Record: 8-0 | Last week: 4
Gemma Almont singled in the eighth inning and later would score which helped the Trojans squeak out a 4-3 extra inning win over Franklin on Monday. 

5. Summerville (S.C.)
Record: 5-0 | Last week: 5
The Green Wave have outscored opponents 57-3 so far this season.

6. Katy (Texas)
Record: 21-1 | Last week: 6
Lauryn Soeken tossed a no-hitter, striking out 14 in only five innings of work during a 14-0 win over Paetow on Saturday.

7. Norco (Calif.)
Record: 11-1 | Last week: 2
Leighton Gray, Dakota Potter and Camryn May all went deep during a 3-2 win over O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.) to advance to the championship at the Dave Kopp TOC.

8. Orange Beach (Ala.)
Record: 1-1 | Last week: 9
Ava Hodo, Addy Oldham, K.G. Favors and Taylor Poland all went deep during a 15-0 win over St. Michael Catholic on Monday.

9. Doral Academy (Doral, Fla.)
Record: 4-0 | Last week: 12
Megan Villazon struck out 14 and allowed just four hits during a 6-0 win over Park Vista on Friday.

10. Coahoma (Texas)
Record: 12-0 | Last week: 13
Avery Rodriguez had a big day at the plate and in the circle Friday. The senior allowed just one hit and also drove in three at the dish.

11. Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport, La.)
Record: 15-0 | Last week: 14
Kynzee Anderson struck out 15 and allowed just two hits as the Cavaliers beat Quitman 3-0 on Monday.

12. Lake Creek (Montgomery, Texas)
Record: 16-0 | Last week: 15
Sara Wiggins struck out nine in just five innings Friday. She also had a triple and had three RBI during a 17-2 win over A&M Consolidated.

13. Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, Texas)
Record: 13-2 | Last week: 18
Hailey Nutter, Aybrie Corona, JosLynn Cooper and AshLynn Cooper all drove in three runs during a 17-0 win over Lee on Monday.

14. Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.)
Record: 10-0 | Last week: 19
Ashlynn Loftus drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, scoring Alexis Camilleri as the Warriors edged Mitchell 5-4 on Thursday.

15. Springville (Ala.)
Record: 10-1 | Last week: 35
Alex Layfield, Georgia Chancellor and Leah Bowden hit bombs while Shelby Hathcock was money in the circle during the Tigers' 12-2 tournament championship win over Wetumpka.

Seniors Abby McLean and Lana Gonzales and sophomore Gracie Ueberroth each have 10 hits or more through seven games.
