Eight new teams enter this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings as more states get underway.
The 29th annual Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz., featured 48 teams from across the West Coast. The final in the Gold Bracket pitted two teams from Southern California as previous No. 2
Norco faced
El Modena (Orange) in the 8 p.m. nightcap Saturday.
El Modena got rolling in the first inning as
Parker Mayes hit a two-run blast.
Sasha Pham went yard in the bottom of the fourth to give Norco the lead but
Ava Savala answered back with a two-run deep fly. The Vanguards held on for a 5-4 victory, bringing home their first Dave Kops TOC title. The win pushes El Modena to No. 3 while the Cougars drop to No. 8.
Springville (Ala.) enters at No. 16 after winning six games and capturing the Wetumpka Tournament championship. The Tigers have outscored opponents 104-14.
