Highlands put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Sacramento Dragons as they made off with a 13-3 win. This was payback for the Scots, who suffered an 8-2 loss the last time these two teams met.
Carlos Lopez-Vega made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Highlands got a massive performance out of Jovanny Gomez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Gomez has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Vinny Showen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Highlands hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacramento struck out 13 times.
Highlands' victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Sacramento, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Highlands and Sacramento will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Scots will challenge rival Woodland Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Sacramento is set to square off against their familiar foe Rodriguez at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
