Yucaipa is 8-2 against Beaumont since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Yucaipa's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Citrus Valley hitters got past them. The Thunderbirds fell just short of the Blackhawks by a score of 14-12 on Thursday. Even if the Thunderbirds couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Xavier Romero put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Evan Heaton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Andrew Zarate, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Beaumont scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 16-10 to Cajon.
Johnnie Gill was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Adam Nelson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Beaumont's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Yucaipa, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 12-7.
Beaumont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Yucaipa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Beaumont, though, as they've only averaged .235. Will they be able to contain Yucaipa's hitters?
Yucaipa beat Beaumont 10-7 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
