The Newbury Park Panthers waltzed into their game on Friday with 19 straight wins but they left with 20. They enjoyed a cozy 48-33 win over Calabasas. Given Newbury Park's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Calabasas is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newbury Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kierabella Coletta-Todd out in front who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Coletta-Todd is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimiko Carmer, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Newbury Park's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. As for Calabasas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will take on Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Westlake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday. As for Calabasas, they will be playing at home against Oaks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Andrea Woodward and Jocelynn Townsend.
