The North Tahoe Lakers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 26-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dayton on Thursday. North Tahoe lost against Dayton in their previous head to head back in December of 2017, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 50-17 score last time.
North Tahoe's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Virginia Gibeaut, who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Keadle Verkler, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds.
Even though they lost, North Tahoe were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dayton only pulled down four.
Dayton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennidi Smith, who scored 5 points along with 9 rebounds. Aileen Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
North Tahoe's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Dayton, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
North Tahoe will take on Sparks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Dayton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hug at 3:30 p.m. on December 1st.
