If The Salina Central Mustangs were feeling good off their 70-27 takedown of the Arkansas City Bulldogs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Salina Central took a 38-24 bruising from Great Bend on Friday. Salina Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Great Bend apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Despite the loss, Salina Central still got an impressive performance from Elijah Wilson, who rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jack Gordon, who threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
Great Bend found their leader in underclassman Daxton Minton, who rushed for 96 yards on only nine carries, and also threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper Ohnmacht got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Salina Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Great Bend, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Salina Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Great Bend will face off against Kapaun Mt. Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kapaun Mt. Carmel knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Great Bend likes a good challenge.
