Andover Central is 7-1 against Valley Center since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Jaguars will host the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, Andover Central made easy work of Arkansas City and carried off a 35-14 win. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Jaxson Green went supernova, rushing for 180 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 59 yards. Cooper Mason got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mason, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Andover Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Brenton Findley was the leader with three.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Valley Center over Maize South in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Mavericks.
Valley Center's win came from a few key players Andover Central will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Connor Thatcher, who threw for 291 yards and four TDs while completing 94.4% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (172.5). Spencer Crumrine was Thatcher's top target, picking up 157 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Andover Central now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Valley Center, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
