The Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears will venture away from home to take on the Rolling Hills Prep Huskies at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Saturday, Port of Los Angeles wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Port of Los Angeles saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Steven Saenz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Ethan Vasquez was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Rolling Hills Prep lost a heartbreaker to Harbor Teacher when they met back in February of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Rolling Hills Prep fell just short of Harbor Teacher by a score of 10-9. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Monarchs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Alex Hernandez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Sarner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Even though they lost, Rolling Hills Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Port of Los Angeles' defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Rolling Hills Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Port of Los Angeles has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rolling Hills Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Port of Los Angeles came up short against Rolling Hills Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Port of Los Angeles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
