While losing is never fun, Newark Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 813th, while Lincoln is ranked 230th).
Newark Memorial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydney Scott, who scored nine points. Vanessa Ruiz was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Lincoln can attribute much of their success to Ciara Ieremia, who scored 16 points. It was the first time this season that Ieremia scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Taleah Manasala, who scored ten points.
Newark Memorial has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Lincoln, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newark Memorial will take on Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kennedy is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Newark Memorial will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Lincoln, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Lowell at 5:30 p.m. Lincoln has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 194 points over their last three games.
