The Panther Valley Panthers won against the Tamaqua Blue Raiders last Saturday with 46 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Panther Valley managed a 46-41 win over Tamaqua. The victory was familiar territory for Panther Valley who now have three in a row.
Maddison Maynard was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Maynard is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Orsulak, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Tamaqua saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Ligenza dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Ligenza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lorelei Plasha, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Panther Valley pushed their record up to 9-4 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Tamaqua, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-2.
Panther Valley will head out on the road to square off against Lehighton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lehighton's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Panther Valley's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Tamaqua, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Blue Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Blue Mountain is ranked 172nd, while Tamaqua is ranked 166th).
