The Burlington Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Florence Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Burlington has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 13.
Burlington couldn't beat Wray/Yuma on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Cougars lost 19-7 to the Eagles.
Jasmin Robles made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addalynn Bolin, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Florence got the win against Bennett on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-1. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Addison Dalton made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn DeSalvo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Lilly Roe was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Burlington's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Florence, their record now sits at 10-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Burlington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Burlington might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Florence when the teams last played back in September. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
