Yorktown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Metting out in front who rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Metting has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Another rusher making a difference was McKenzie Yanta, who rushed for 140 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Yorktown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Louise didn't have too much trouble with Pettus on Friday as they won 22-6. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Yorktown better keep an eye on Conner Gonzalez. He was instrumental in Louise's win, rushing for 161 yards on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 57 yards and one TD. Gonzalez's longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Louise's defense and their four sacks. Fischer Swint refused to say out of the backfield, picking up a sack all by himself.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Yorktown, their record now sits at 5-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Yorktown has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 437.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Louise, though, as they've been averaging only 183.1 total yards. Will Yorktown be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Hornets flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Yorktown against Louise in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 39-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
