The Clay County Panthers had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by Hoover 37-36 on Tuesday. For Clay County, this counts as revenge for the 51-29 defeat the Huskies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Hoover saw an underclassman step up: Ayva Veltri scored 19 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Veltri has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Colleen Wilcox, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Clay County's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-8. As for Hoover, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay County will stay at home for another game and welcome the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Hoover will take on the Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Scott focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 last Monday.
