St. Martinville has been on the road for 12 straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. The St. Martinville Tigers and the New Iberia Yellowjackets will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully St. Martinville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought match, but St. Martinville had to settle for a 52-49 defeat against Breaux Bridge.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Raytyrion Narcisse, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristian Batiste, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, New Iberia had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 39-37 win from a begrudging Yellowjacketssquad.
St. Martinville has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for New Iberia, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
St. Martinville came up short against New Iberia in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 69-61. Thankfully for St. Martinville, Christian Walker (who scored 26 points along with six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
