The Oceanside Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 34 points or more this season. They blew past Valley Center 60-26 on the road. Given Oceanside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Valley Center is ranked 813th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oceanside was led to victory by Aubrey Madden and Martina Griffin. Madden dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Griffin scored 19 points along with seven steals. Madden is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Emily Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Jayde Mazzetti and Brooklyn English certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Mazzetti scored seven points along with 11 rebounds, while English scored nine points along with five rebounds. Mazzetti also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Even though they lost, Valley Center were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oceanside only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Oceanside's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Valley Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oceanside's road trip will continue as they head out to face El Camino at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. As for Valley Center, they will challenge Mission Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Vista is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
