The Willow Glen Rams will challenge the Piedmont Hills Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Willow Glen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Willow Glen took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ann Sobrato a 5-0 shutout. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Spencer Bartlinski was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Bartlinski wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Miles Austin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Willow Glen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Hills suffered their closest loss since April 24, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Pioneer by a score of 8-6.
Toby Torres made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Willow Glen's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Piedmont Hills, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Willow Glen's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. Willow Glen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Piedmont Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Willow Glen continue to outrun the ball?
Willow Glen beat Piedmont Hills 5-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Willow Glen repeat their success, or does Piedmont Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
