The Chambers Cougars fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the West Charlotte Lions on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to the Lions. Chambers was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Charlotte apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Chambers lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brianna Redmond. Despite the final result, she scored 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Redmond has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Simpson, who scored 13 points.
Chambers struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as West Charlotte pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Paige Bowman was her usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with six steals and five rebounds for West Charlotte. Latayshia Andrews was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Chambers and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for West Charlotte, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chambers will take on Mallard Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mallard Creek is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for West Charlotte, they will stay at home for another game and welcome North Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. North Mecklenburg will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
