The Chula Vista Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Victory Christian Academy at home by a decisive 50-36 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chula Vista in their matchups with the Knights: they've now lost five in a row.
Chula Vista's loss came despite strong showings from Malissa Mckoy and Ta'mya Lewis. Mckoy almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, while Lewis scored eight points along with 17 rebounds. Mckoy has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played.
Victory Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Mai'ana Norita, who almost dropped a double-double on 31 points and nine steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Norita has scored at least a third of Victory Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kami Demara, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Chula Vista dropped their record down to 10-14 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Victory Christian Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chula Vista will take on the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ysidro comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Olympian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.
