The East Nicolaus Spartans won the last time they faced the Willows Honkers, and things went their way on Monday too. East Nicolaus came out on top against Willows by a score of 44-35.
East Nicolaus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rylee Gillespie led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five steals. Gillespie is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kaylyn Ponce was another key contributor, scoring six points.
East Nicolaus is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Willows, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Nicolaus will take on Live Oak at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Live Oak has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4. As for Willows, they will be playing at home against Colusa at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Colusa presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Willows in California (Colusa is ranked 381st, while Willows is ranked 866th).
