The Soquel Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Aptos Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Soquel will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Soquel's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Santa Cruz as they made off with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Dylan Hull, who gave up just two hits to keep Santa Cruz off the board.
On the hitting side, Soquel saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Escalante, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another was Enzo Goff, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Soquel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Aptos earned a 6-1 victory over San Lorenzo Valley on Thursday. The Mariners haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Jason Yager tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Soquel's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Aptos, their record is now 7-11.
Both Soquel and Aptos just can't seem to miss. The Knights have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Aptos struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Soquel skirted past Aptos 6-5 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
