Patrick Henry and St. Augustine are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Patriots will host the Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Patrick Henry 2.6, St. Augustine 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Patrick Henry's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Point Loma by a score of 5-0. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Pointers on their field since April 18, 2023.
Tyson Bobo and Alex Mestman did most of the damage at the plate: Bobo went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Mestman went 3-for-4 with two runs. That's the most hits Mestman has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, St. Augustine's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Scripps Ranch by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Saints have suffered since May 17, 2024.
Jonny Haskett was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Raphael Dunne was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Patrick Henry is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for St. Augustine, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Patrick Henry has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Augustine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Patrick Henry suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to St. Augustine in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
