Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Chavez

Chavez had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Taft Wildcats a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jacob Sixtos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Chavez is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 7-8-1 otherwise. Sixtos was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Jayden Popoy and Jose Agredano did most of the damage at the plate: Popoy went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Agredano got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI. Chavez is undefeated when Popoy posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Julian Villareal, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Chavez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Chavez's victory bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Taft, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Chavez will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against McFarland at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Taft, they will challenge Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
