The University Red Devils will square off against the Woodside Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
University took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Stuart Hall 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since March 17th.

Matthew Foley made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because University is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise. Foley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Foley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mattie Grisso, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Woodside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of San Mateo.
John Tinson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
University is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
University's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. The Red Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Woodside, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will University continue to outrun the ball?
University came out on top in a nail-biter against Woodside in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
