The Oceanside Pirates's game on Tuesday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Sage Creek 55-50. Oceanside was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on January 12th.
When it comes to explaining why Oceanside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Martina Griffin. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griffin has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Kaye, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Oceanside struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Sage Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harmony Lawler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lawler is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Keehn, who scored ten points along with seven assists.
Oceanside's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Sage Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oceanside will square off against the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in California (La Costa Canyon is ranked 329th, while the Pirates are ranked 338th). As for Sage Creek, they will head out on the road to square off against the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Torrey Pines focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
