The 2024 high school flag football season is off and running in six of the seven states that participate in the fall. Enough games have been played to begin formulating computer rankings.
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia and Illinois sanction flag football in the fall. Georgia is the only state waiting to get underway. Peach State teams have to wait until Sept. 30 to begin playing games.
Teams from California dominate the top 25 computer rankings with some squads having already played more than 10 games. No. 1
Orange Lutheran (Orange) is averaging over 35 points per game while allowing less than eight.
No. 2
JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) is led by freshman quarterback
Ava Van Heerde, who is averaging 254 yards passing per game and has thrown 18 touchdowns. Seniors
Seylah Childress and
Shea Gonzales along with sophomore
Kai Beary each have over 200 receiving yards for the Lions.
Another freshman signal caller putting up impressive numbers is
Maliyah Estrada of No. 17
Western Christian (Upland, Calif.). Estrada leads the country with 2,878 passing yards and 53 touchdowns in 13 games. Senior wide receiver
Grace Galdamez has hauled in 19 of those touchdown passes.
