The Minden Whippets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 71-48 walloping at the hands of Gothenburg. Minden was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-15.
Minden's loss came despite strong showings from Brycen Schwenka and Kade Dorszynski. Schwenka dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Dorszynski scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Dorszynski continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Lutkemeier, who scored five points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Minden dropped their record down to 7-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Gothenburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minden will square off against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Adams Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Whippets in Nebraska (the Patriots are ranked 25th, while the Whippets are ranked 107th). As for Gothenburg, they and the Longhorns will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Chase County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
