The Santana Sultans will face off against the Christian Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Santana hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Things were looking good for Santana after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of University City.
Santana got a good showing from Christian Levesque, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Santana saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Landers, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Landers has posted since back in March of 2024. Michael Morrison also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
While Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Grossmont 9-1 on Wednesday.
Logan Major made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xander Molina, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bryce Vowles, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-1.
Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grossmont only posted a batting average of .130.
Christian pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Santana, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 2-4.
Everything went Santana's way against Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, as Santana made off with an 8-2 victory. Will Santana repeat their success, or does Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
