Brawley and Calipatria are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Brawley Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Calipatria Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brawley will be strutting in after a win while Calipatria will be coming in after a defeat.
Brawley put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Southwest EC 68-30 at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Brawley had established a 31 point advantage.
Brawley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maliyah Jackson Montoya led the charge by scoring 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson Montoya has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Salceda, who scored 20 points.
Meanwhile, Calipatria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 45-22 loss at the hands of Southwest EC. Calipatria has struggled against Southwest EC recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Brawley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. As for Calipatria, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-15.
Brawley strolled past Calipatria when the teams last played last Tuesday by a score of 42-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brawley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
