Thunderbird is 9-1 against Shadow Mountain since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Titans will look to defend their home field against the Matadors at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Thunderbird barely beat Greenway the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Titans were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Demons on Thursday. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Thunderbird got a big performance out of John Paul (JP) Stewart, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyson Gorder, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Thunderbird hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenway struck out nine times.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Shadow Mountain and Moon Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Matadors were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Rockets on Thursday. The game was the first time the Matadors have beaten the Rockets on their field since April 14, 2023.
Michael Collins made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Shadow Mountain is 5-2 when Collins allows two or fewer earned runs, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Collins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Asher Kendall was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Shadow Mountain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Lieske, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Shadow Mountain now has a winning record of 11-10-1. As for Thunderbird, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.
Thunderbird's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Titans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Shadow Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Thunderbird continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Thunderbird's way against Shadow Mountain when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Thunderbird made off with a 16-6 win. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Matadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
