The Portola Bulldogs will challenge the Whittier Christian Heralds at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Portola is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Portola lost 8-1 to Marina on Tuesday.
Portola got a good showing from Andrew Yun, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Yun has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Portola saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keyan Park, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Nathan Chen also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Whittier Christian never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Edgewood on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Lions as they made off with a 13-1 win.
Aiden Echavarria made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Whittier Christian is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Echavarria was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other pitching news, Tim Lee looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Whittier Christian is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Ryan Erickson was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zion Park, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Whittier Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edgewood only posted an OBP of .182.
Whittier Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Portola's loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
